New Permit Requirement: (June 30, 2009) Holders of heritage inspection permits, and investigation permits if appropriate, are now required to submit a shapefile of areas that have been ground truthed to determine if they contain archaeological sites protected by the Heritage Conservation Act.  This information will be used to develop a study area layer available through the HRIA and, in time, RAAD.
This requirement is found on the permit as an “Other Condition” worded as:

For heritage inspection permits, the permit-holder shall submit spatial information (as a shape file in accordance with the standards required by the Minister) of all study areas that were the subject of in-field inspections.

Details on recording and submitting this information are found in Bulletin 23: Recording Archaeological Study Areas.

bullet Revised: (June 30, 2009) The Archaeology Branch is integrating the Archaeological Permit Tracking System (APTS) into the permit application and report review process. The APTS can be used by professional archaeologists to:

          Submit permit applications online
Track the status of their applications and permits
View documents related to their permits
Submit and view interim and final reports
          Maintain their user profiles

By 2010, professional archaeologists will be required to use APTS to submit permit applications to the Branch.
