Heritage Branch Sees Staffing Changes

With the retirement of Director, Patrick Frey after 35 years with the Public Service, the Ministry announces that Senior Curator, Jennifer Iredale has been appointed as Acting Director, for a six month period starting July 27, 2009.

Fact Sheets Now Available

Heritage Branch has published a new series of plain-language Fact Sheets.  Developed for both local governments and general public, topics include Celebrating Your Heritage: Getting Started, Heritage Conservation Planning Options as well as a number of sheets dedicated to the sustainability aspect of heritage conservation such as How does historic preservation contribute to sustainable development?

Heritage Branch Launches New Sustainability Web Pages

If you have ever wondered what the connection is between historic places and environmental sustainability, read on!  Heritage Branch has launched new pages which explore the environmental benefits of building rehabilitation and conservation. 

This new website section cites cutting edge research to illustrate the alignment of heritage conservation with sound environmental methodology.  Learn about the benefits of traditional building materials, design and improving energy efficiency without sacrificing historic character.

Fort Steele Economic Impact Study Results

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, in conjunction with the Canadian Tourism Research Institute and the Conference Board of Canada, has released an Economic Impact Analysis of Fort Steele National Heritage Town. This document reports on the economic impact associated with Fort Steele, including its annual operation, capital expenditures and expenditures by independent travellers.
