Crown Land - A Definition
Crown land is land or land covered by water
(such as rivers or lakes) that is owned by the
provincial government. The vast majority of
British Columbia’s land area – fully 94 percent
– is Crown land.
When an individual or organization wishes to use
Crown land for a specific purpose, the Province
may agree to enter into a tenure agreement to
rent the land for a certain purpose over a set
period of time.
Resort developments are an example of one use of
Crown land that may be covered by a tenure
agreement or sale agreement/offer.
